The Papatowai Forest Heritage Trust was set up in 1996 to "Promote and encourage the protection and preservation of the indigenous flora and fauna of the Catlins area and for such charitable works in connection therewith as trustees may from time to time determine." The Trust has been incorporated as a charitable trust. It has six trustees who oversee its management, and they are Diana Noonan, Keith Olsen, Mabel Roy, Carol Geissler Fergus and Mary Sutherland (all of Papatowai), Mike McPhee, Jennifer Keenan and Bruce Anderson. The Trust has purchased two sections of land totalling 3 hectares in regenerating forest at Papatowai. It has also worked to highlight issues of forest conservation in the area. The Trust welcomes your interest in its work and its reserves. By making a donation you may join the Trust and be kept informed of developments.LATEST PLANS Having created a 400 metre nature trail through our Shanks's Bush reserve the Trust is now working with landowners in the adjacent Chaslands distrct to create another reseerve. This latest reserve will protect and enhance a spall remnant of red tussock and shrubland which is rare in the area.
